Welcome!  We're celebrating 30 years!!
The MoKan Chapter of the American Business Women's Association is based in Kansas City. Our chapter was chartered on April 27th, 1980 in Lenexa, Kansas, with 34 charter members. This chapter and many other Kansas City chapters are members of the Kansas City Area Council which meets to brainstorm new ideas and share common issues.

During our 30 years we have enjoyed much success along with change. We continue to grow and evolve while providing scholarships to local college students, and educational opportunities, business and professional support to our own members. Our current membership is approximately 30. New and transferring members bring new ideas and fresh viewpoints and we’re always ready for new members!

Spring Conference Reports

Two of our chapter members attended the District III Spring Conference in Itasca, Illinois, this past April.  Come hear them share their learnings and experiences!  Our August meeting will be an indoor picnic!  We will also have a Vacation Auction following the meeting where members and guests have the option to bring a wrapped gift from any vacation (or non-vacation) spot then auction off to the highest bidder!  Proceeds go to the educational fund.

Recap of July 14 Program:
Brain Research and Learning

What do we know about how the brain learns most effectively?  This interactive presentation with brain images gave us fascinating information about how our brain works and how to keep it working at its best.  Our program was presented by Charis Sawyer, Associate Professor, Center for Teaching & Learning at Johnson County Community College.

Recap of June 9 Program:

Leadership

It goes without saying that good leadership is crucial to any successful organization. But, what makes a good leader and how can someone develop himself or herself into a good leader if they are not one to begin with? The answer is that there are many factors that contribute to good leadership. And, whether someone is naturally a good leader or not, anyone can become a good leader.  Our program was presented by Karen Martley, Director, Staff and Organizational Development, Human Resources at Johnson County Community College.
